Indulge in spooky chocolate brownies for Halloween fun!
Ingredients:
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on brownie mix box
  • 3/4 cup butterscotch-flavored chips, if desired
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Assorted Halloween candies, gumdrops or shaped marshmallow pieces, such as bats, moons, pumpkins, ghosts
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 13x9-inch pan with foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang. Grease the bottom of the foil with shortening or cooking spray. Prepare the brownie batter in a medium bowl following the instructions on the box, adding butterscotch-flavored chips. Spread the batter in the pan.
  • Follow the baking instructions on the box for a 13x9-inch pan. Allow to cool for approximately 1 hour before adding frosting.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until boiling. Reduce heat to low and boil for 2 minutes. Pour in milk and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool for about 45 minutes until lukewarm. Slowly mix in powdered sugar. If frosting is too thin, cool saucepan in a bowl of cold water, then beat until smooth. If frosting is too thick, add milk one teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Remove the brownie from the pan by lifting the foil carefully. Spread frosting over the brownie, then create tree and fence designs using pretzel sticks. Add candies to complete the "scary night" landscape. Cut the brownies into 6 rows by 4 rows and store tightly covered.
