Cinnamon-sugar seasoned apples baked in flaky puff pastry, topped with sweet icing.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 0.375 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and halved
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
  • Roll out the pastry sheets to a 12x12-inch measurement. Cut each sheet into quarters to create 8 - 6-inch squares.
  • Combine sugar, bread crumbs, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. Brush a pastry square with beaten egg. Put 1 tablespoon of the bread crumb mixture in the center. Lay one apple half, core side down, on top of the bread crumbs. Add another tablespoon of the mixture on top. Fold the four corners of the pastry up and pinch the sides tightly to seal. Repeat with the remaining apples.
  • Brush each dumpling with a luscious coat of beaten egg, then bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for another 25 minutes until beautifully golden brown. Allow to cool completely at room temperature.
  • For the icing, mix confectioners' sugar and vanilla with just enough milk for a smooth drizzle. Pour over cooled dumplings and enjoy on the same day.
