Hearty beef stew with tender meat, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, and savory broth. A comforting dish that fills your home with irresistible aroma.
Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cubed
  • 12 small boiling onions
  • 6 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 6 carrots, sliced
  • 3 stalks celery, sliced
  • 3 (10.5 ounce) cans beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
Instructions:
  • Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Combine flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a resealable plastic bag. Coat a small handful of meat at a time by shaking in the bag. Brown meat in the hot oil for about 1 minute per side. Once browned, remove the meat and continue until all meat is browned.
  • Reduce heat to medium and add the onions. Caramelize the onions on both sides for about 3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from the pot and set aside. Drain any excess fat from the pot.
  • Add the potatoes, carrots, celery, reserved onions, browned meat, and broth to the pot. Stir everything together and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • To thicken the broth: 30 minutes before the stew is finished, make a slurry by mixing 3 tablespoons of flour with water in a small bowl until smooth, then gently stir it into the stew.
