Vintage peach jam recipe using basic ingredients from Auntie Doris – perfect on toast, oatmeal, or ice cream.
Ingredients:
  • 12 fresh peaches - peeled, pitted and chopped
  • 4 oranges
  • 6 cups white sugar
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine peaches and chopped oranges (including the peel) using a food processor for minimal juice loss. Add sugar, mix well, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  • Transfer the mixture from the bowl to a large pot the next day. Simmer gently over low heat for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, to prevent sticking or burning. Avoid bringing the jam to a rolling boil.
  • - Sterilize jars in boiling water for 5 minutes, and keep hot. Follow manufacturer's lids instructions. Ladle jam into jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe rims clean, seal with lids, and rings. Process following local extension guidelines.
