Indulge in a decadent make-ahead French toast bake featuring challah bread and a sweet cinnamon sugar topping - perfect for breakfast or dessert!
Ingredients:
  • butter for greasing
  • 1.5 loaves challah, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 0.75 cup white sugar, divided
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, or more to taste
  • 3 cups milk
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, cut into 10 pieces
Instructions:
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter and add the challah to the dish.
  • Combine 1/4 cup of sugar with cinnamon and set it aside to enhance the flavors.
  • In a bowl, combine milk, eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, vanilla, and salt. Pour this mixture over the bread, top with butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar. Cover with foil and refrigerate for 8 hours to overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) before baking.
  • Bake French toast in the preheated oven until golden brown, for 30 to 45 minutes. Serve warm after removing from the oven.
