Effortlessly assemble baklava using store-bought phyllo dough, sweetened with honey and loaded with nuts and spices to impress a crowd.
Ingredients:
  • For the baklava:
  • 1 pound of chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pistachios are best, or use a combination of them)
  • 1 pound of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • For the syrup:
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Finely ground pistachios for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
  • Thaw the phyllo dough overnight as per the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch pan.
  • Prepare the filling by finely chopping the nuts in a food processor and mixing them with sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Melt the butter in a separate bowl using the microwave. Cut the phyllo sheets in half for them to fit in the pan.
  • Create the base: Layer a sheet of phyllo dough in the pan and generously brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process 7 more times for a total of 8 buttery sheets.
  • Alternate layering the nut mixture with buttered phyllo sheets until all the nut mixture is used, ensuring the top layer consists of 8 buttered phyllo sheets. Embrace any crinkles for added texture.
  • Score the mixture into 24 equal squares using a sharp knife. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes until lightly golden brown with slightly crisp edges.
  • Prepare the syrup: As the dish bakes, create a flavorful syrup. In a saucepan, mix together a cinnamon stick, sugar, lemon juice, honey, and water. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 7 minutes until slightly thickened. Discard the cinnamon stick and let it cool.
  • Drizzle the cooled syrup over the hot baklava and allow it to cool, uncovered, for a minimum of 4 hours. Sprinkle with finely crushed pistachios, if desired. Enjoy this delicious treat and don't forget to leave a rating and review!
