Indulge in rich and sweet honey baklava for the perfect end to a Middle Eastern meal.
Ingredients:
  • 2.50 gm cinnamon
  • 4 x 150g pkt walnuts, chopped
  • 300g caster sugar
  • 20 sheets filo pastry
  • 80g butter, melted
  • 375ml water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 21.00 gm lemon juice
  • 60ml honey
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a 20cm x 30cm slab pan. Mix together 600g chopped walnuts, 1/3 cup (80g) caster sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Preparing the filo layers: Brush 5 sheets of filo with melted butter and stack them, repeat this process to make a total of 4 stacks. Place one stack in a pan and top with one-third of the walnut mixture. Continue layering with filo and walnut mixture, ending with filo. Cut into four portions and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Combine 2 cups (220g) caster sugar, 1 1/2 cups (375ml) water, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Add 1/4 cup (60ml) honey, remove the cinnamon sticks, and pour the mixture over the hot slice. Allow it to cool before serving.
