Savoury Middle Eastern meatballs coated in cracked wheat, served on kebab bread with mint and tomato salad.
Ingredients:
  • 400g pkt white kebab bread (Buttercup brand)
  • 600g premium beef mince
  • 90g (1/2 cup) burghul (cracked wheat)
  • 2 1/2 tsp Moroccan seasoning (MasterFoods brand)
  • 1 medium white onion, peeled, finely chopped
  • 27.30 gm olive oil
  • 3 medium ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 30.00 ml roughly chopped fresh mint
  • 1 small butter lettuce, leaves separated, washed
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to 150°C.
  • Wrap the kebab bread in foil and bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes or until heated through. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine beef mince, burghul, Moroccan seasoning, onion, and egg. Mix together using your hands until fully combined. Shape the mixture into eight evenly sized 8cm-wide patties.
  • Heat up a chargrill or barbecue on medium heat.
  • Grease the chargrill or barbecue with 3 teaspoons of olive oil and grill the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  • Mix together the tomatoes, mint, and remaining olive oil in a bowl while the burgers cook.
  • Arrange the lettuce leaves on the kebab bread, then add the patties and the tomato and mint salad on top before serving.
