Elevate your stroganoff with a flavorful blend of basil, thyme, oregano, and white wine for a lighter sauce, perfect for topping rice.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (8 ounce) package sliced mushrooms
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, diced
  • 1.5 pounds beef sirloin steak, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 2 cups beef bouillon
  • 1 teaspoon crumbled dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half cream
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter until sizzling. Add mushrooms, onion, and garlic, and sauté until tender. Transfer the mushroom mixture to a bowl, keeping the liquid in the saucepan. Return the saucepan to medium-high heat.
  • Combine the flour and half-and-half in a bowl, whisk until smooth, and set aside.
  • Season the beef with salt and pepper, then sear it in the reserved liquid for about 5 minutes until browned. Add wine, beef bouillon, thyme, basil, oregano, bay leaves, and pepper. Simmer over medium-low heat for 10 minutes. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until the sauce thickens. Finally, mix in the mushrooms and combine well.
