Elevate baked beans with mixed beans, savory ground beef, and crispy bacon for a hearty main dish with sweet smoky flavors.
Ingredients:
  • 6 slices bacon, or more to taste
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, or more to taste, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans pork and beans
  • 1 (16 ounce) can light red kidney beans
  • 1 (16 ounce) can butter beans
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet, sizzle bacon over medium-high heat until crispy, about 10-12 minutes. Place on paper towels to drain, reserving the flavorful bacon grease in the skillet. Once cool, crumble the bacon into delicious bits.
  • In a glorious bacony pan, sauté onion over medium heat until tender, for about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook until aromatic, for about 1 minute. Transfer the flavorful onion mixture with all its bacony goodness to a slow cooker.
  • Brown and crumble ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat for 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer to the slow cooker.
  • Combine pork and beans, kidney beans, butter beans, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke in the slow cooker.
  • Simmer gently for 4 hours. Garnish with crispy bacon crumbles before serving.
