Indulge in decadent brown sugar buttery goodness.
Ingredients:
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 12-cup fluted tube cake pan or a 10-inch angel food (tube cake) pan with shortening and lightly flour it. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to blend 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, granulated sugar, and softened butter until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in 2 teaspoons vanilla. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture and 3/4 cup milk until smooth. Pour the batter into the pan.
  • Bake for 1-1 hour 10 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Allow it to cool completely for about 2 hours.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, bring all the sauce ingredients except vanilla to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Let it boil and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let it cool to room temperature before adding 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Serve the warm sauce with cake.
