Candy cane shaped cookies with sugar and crushed candy cane topping.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 0.5 cup peppermint candy canes, crushed
  • 0.5 cup white sugar for decoration
Instructions:
  • Cream together margarine, white sugar, and confectioners' sugar in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and peppermint extracts. Combine flour and salt, then stir into the creamy mixture until fully blended. Chill dough for at least one hour by covering or wrapping it.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and grease cookie sheets. Divide dough in half. Color one half red using food coloring. Roll a small amount of each dough into a 2-inch worm, then twist them together into a rope and shape into candy canes. Place on prepared cookie sheets.
  • After baking for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, coat the hot cookies by rolling them in a mixture of crushed candy cane and the remaining white sugar from the small bowl.
