A light and sweet twist on traditional French Canadian dessert, made with milk and brown sugar instead of heavy cream and maple syrup.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup margarine, divided
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Sift together flour and baking powder in a small bowl.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to blend together sugar, 1/4 cup margarine, and egg until smooth. Gradually add the flour mixture in two parts, alternating with milk. Stir the batter briefly after each addition until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  • Heat water in a saucepan until boiling, then add brown sugar, remaining 1/4 cup of margarine, and vanilla. Boil for 2 minutes before pouring the sauce over the batter.
  • Bake in a preheated oven until the center is firm, approximately 45 minutes.
