Elevate your apple pie game with a rich caramel sauce drizzled over a beautiful lattice crust.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.25 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pastry for double-crust pie (see footnote for recipe link)
  • 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
Instructions:
  • Prepare your mise en place.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, conjure up a magical potion by mingling white sugar, brown sugar, butter, water, cinnamon, and salt. Let it bubble with excitement, then whisk it away from the heat and keep it close by.
  • Roll out half of the pastry dough to perfectly fit a 9-inch pie plate, gently place the bottom crust in the pie plate, and then fill it with the apple slices.
  • Roll out the top crust into a 10-inch circle, then slice it into 8 (1-inch) wide strips using a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel.
  • Create a beautiful lattice pattern with the pastry strips, gently weaving them together. Tuck the ends of the strips under the bottom crust edge and press to seal securely.
  • Drizzle the butter-sugar mixture over the pie, making sure to coat the lattice and let any extra sauce seep through the crust.
  • Start by baking in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, lower the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue baking until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, about 35 to 40 minutes longer. Let it cool completely before slicing.
