Indulge in Chef John's mouthwatering Cuban sandwich with Swiss cheese, ham, pulled pork, pickles, and zesty sauce on crusty bread.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup mustard
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 (8 ounce) loaf Cuban bread
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 6 thin slices smoked fully-cooked ham
  • 1.5 cups cooked pulled pork, heated
  • 1 large dill pickle, sliced thinly lengthwise
  • 2 tablespoons butter, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Collect all the necessary ingredients.
  • Combine creamy mayonnaise, spicy mustard, and a hint of cayenne pepper in a bowl to create a tantalizing sauce.
  • Trim the ends off the bread loaf, then evenly split it in half to create the top and bottom of two sandwiches.
  • Generously coat each cut side with mayo-mustard sauce.
  • Layer the ingredients as follows on the bottom halves of the sandwich: 2 slices Swiss cheese, 3 slices ham, hot cooked pork, pickle slices, and finish with 2 more slices of Swiss cheese. Top with the remaining halves of the sandwich.
  • In a heavy skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sandwiches to the skillet and press down with a heavy weight like another skillet or foil-wrapped bricks. Toast until bread is crisp and filling is heated through, about 3-4 minutes per side.
