Savor this timeless shrimp and grits recipe any time of day!
Ingredients:
  • 4 slices bacon, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup white grits
  • 0.5 cup shredded white Cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced jalapeno pepper
  • 2 tablespoons minced green onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions:
  • Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until almost crisp, turning occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer bacon to a dish, keeping the flavorful drippings in the skillet.
  • Combine 1/4 cup water, cream, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
  • Combine 4 cups of water, butter, and 1 teaspoon of salt in a pot and bring to a boil. Add grits and simmer on low heat for 20 to 25 minutes until creamy. Remove from heat and stir in white Cheddar cheese.
  • Add shrimp to a spacious bowl and generously season with Cajun seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, black pepper, and a touch of cayenne pepper.
  • Heat skillet with bacon drippings over high heat. Sear shrimp in the flavorful fat for 1 minute until golden. Flip shrimp, add jalapeno, and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Mix in cream, bacon, green onion, and garlic, stirring constantly. Add water as needed to achieve desired consistency as you simmer until shrimp are cooked through, for about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and gently fold in fresh parsley.
  • Serve the shrimp and sauce over a bed of creamy grits in a bowl.
