Indulge in decadent choc-hazelnut scones for a delightful twist on a classic favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 225.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 40.00 gm caster sugar
  • 4.00 gm baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 60g butter, chilled, chopped
  • 195.00 gm buttermilk
  • 65.00 gm cocoa powder, sifted
  • 62.70 gm NESTLÉ BAKERS' CHOICE Dark CHOC BITS
  • 82.50 ml finely chopped dry roasted hazelnuts
  • Buttermilk, extra, for brushing
  • Cocoa powder, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 220C/200C fan-forced and line a baking tray with baking paper, positioning the rack in the top half of the oven.
  • In a bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add butter and rub it into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Mix in cocoa, chocolate chips, and hazelnuts until combined.
  • Create a deep well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Using a flat-bladed knife, mix until a sticky dough comes together. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead until smooth.
  • Flatten dough between baking paper into a 20cm square, then slice into 16 squares.
  • Arrange the scones closely on the tray. Brush with buttermilk. Bake for 15 minutes or until they turn golden and sound hollow when tapped. Serve sprinkled with cocoa powder.
