Indulge in a refreshing orange-flavored frozen treat topped with fluffy whipped cream.
Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup coarsely chopped blanched almonds
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 60 vanilla wafer cookies, finely crushed (2 cups)
  • 5 cups vanilla ice cream (from 1/2 gallon), softened
  • 5 cups orange sherbet (from 3 pints), softened
  • 1/2 pint (1 cup) whipping cream, whipped
  • Orange peel curls, if desired
Instructions:
  • Toast almonds in a medium skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until light golden brown. Set aside 2 tablespoons for topping.
  • Melt butter with almonds in a skillet until butter is melted. Stir in cookie crumbs until well mixed. Press mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9-inch pan. Allow to cool completely, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Combine the ice cream and sherbet in a large bowl, stirring until just partially blended. Spoon the mixture over the cooled crust, then smooth the top. Cover and freeze until firm, for at least 4 hours.
  • Serve the dessert by cutting it into squares and placing them on individual dessert plates. Top each square with whipped cream, reserved toasted almonds, and an orange curl garnish.
