Impress with flavorful homemade cumin bread.
Ingredients:
  • 325ml warm water
  • 1 3/4 tsp dried yeast
  • 4.50 gm sugar
  • 40.00 ml natural yoghurt
  • 60g (1/4 cup) ghee, melted
  • 500g (3 1/3 cups) plain flour
  • 3.60 gm salt
  • Olive oil, to grease
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
Instructions:
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the water, yeast, and sugar. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit in a warm place for 5 minutes or until frothy. Then, add the yogurt and 2 tablespoons of ghee, and stir well.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until combined, then bring the dough together using your hands. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Grease a large bowl with oil. Place the dough in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat oven to 230°C and heat 2 baking trays in the oven. Punch down the centre of the dough with your fist, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 2 minutes until elastic. Divide dough into 6 portions and shape each into an 18 x 9 cm oval. Brush with remaining ghee, sprinkle with cumin seeds, and bake for 10 minutes until golden. Serve hot.
