Whip up quick and easy homemade corn dogs using jumbo hot dogs and basic pantry staples - a hit with the kids!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup cold whole milk
  • 16 large hot dogs
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
  • 16 skewers
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in milk and egg until smooth. Refrigerate covered until ready to use.
  • Bring water to a boil in a large pot. Boil hot dogs for 7 minutes until heated through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Preheat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C in a deep-fryer or large saucepan. Skewer each hot dog and pat dry. Pour batter into a tall drinking glass.
  • Coat one hot dog in batter and gently place it into hot oil. Cook until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs, cooking a few at a time to avoid overcrowding the fryer.
