Family-favorite sugar cookies with a delightful, hardened frosting for an extra special treat.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup butter flavored shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 drops any color food coloring
Instructions:
  • Combine shortening and white sugar in a large bowl, cream until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt, then add to the creamed mixture. Cover dough and chill for at least one hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) while you lightly grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface, then cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Arrange cookies 1 1/2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer them to wire racks to cool before frosting.
  • In a small bowl, combine butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and confectioners' sugar until smooth. Gradually mix in milk until spreadable. Add food coloring to reach desired color. Decorate cooled cookies on waxed paper to set.
