Delicious pear pie with sweet pears, sugar, and savory Cheddar cheese topping.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups finely shredded mild Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 10 large pears, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 unbaked 9-inch pie crusts
Instructions:
  • Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl, sifting them together. Use a fork to gently incorporate the grated Cheddar cheese into the mixture. Then, add the butter and use a wide spoon to mix until crumbly. Set aside the topping at room temperature.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Gently nestle pie crusts in their tins on a baking sheet, leaving a cozy 1-inch gap between them to ensure even baking.
  • In a small bowl, sift together sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Transfer pears to a large mixing bowl. Once the oven is preheated, sprinkle the sugar mixture over the pears and mix well. Evenly distribute the filling into the 2 pie crusts. Divide the topping in half and spoon 4 to 6 dollops onto each pie; use a wide knife to spread it out evenly.
  • Place the pies on the center rack of the oven that has been preheated and bake for roughly 18 minutes until the pears release their juices and start bubbling. Keep an eye on the pies and if the crust or topping is getting too dark, cover them with aluminum foil and continue baking for another 7 minutes.
