Korean braised tofu: Crispy tofu braised in sweet & savory sauce for bold flavors & textures. Quick & easy recipe!
Ingredients:
  • For the seared tofu
  • 1 (15 to 18-ounce) package firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons rice flour
  • 2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil, or as needed
  • For the sauce 1/3 cup soy sauce1/3 cup water, plus more as needed2  tablespoons toasted sesame oil 3 cloves garlic, finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon gochugaru
  • 1 tablespoon sugar2 scallions, thinly sliced, divided2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds, plus more for garnish
Instructions:
  • Prepare the tofu by slicing 1/2-inch thick slices and layering them on a plate lined with paper towels. Gently press to remove excess liquid, then replace the paper towels with dry ones and set aside.
  • Prepare the sauce by mixing together soy sauce, water, sesame oil, garlic, gochugaru, sugar, and half of the sliced scallions in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Coat tofu in rice flour and pan-fry: Spread rice flour on a plate. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add canola oil. Dredge tofu in rice flour, shaking off excess. Pan-fry until golden brown, around 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Lower the heat, then pour and spread the sauce over the seared tofu, ensuring it goes underneath. Simmer for a total of 5-6 minutes, flipping the tofu as the sauce thickens. Add water if needed.
  • To serve: Take off the heat. Place the braised tofu on a plate and drizzle any extra sauce from the pot over it. Garnish with the remaining sliced scallions and additional sesame seeds. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. Feel free to show your love by rating the recipe below!
