Homemade ginger beef: Crispy beef slices in flavorful ginger sauce. Worth the effort for this takeout favorite!
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds beef top round steak, cut into thin slices
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 cup oil for frying, or as needed
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 carrots, cut into matchstick-size pieces
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 5 tablespoons minced fresh ginger root
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Combine the beef and eggs in a bowl, then fold in a mixture of cornstarch and water until well combined.
  • Fill your wok with 2 to 3 inches of oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Fry beef strips in batches until they are golden and crispy, about 4 minutes each. Drain on paper towels and keep warm. Repeat with the rest of the beef.
  • In a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, warm sesame oil. Add carrots, green onion, ginger, and garlic. Sauté until vegetables start to soften, approximately 5 minutes. Add soy sauce, white vinegar, sugar, and red pepper flakes to the vegetables and bring to a boil. Toss in beef strips, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and mix well.
