"Indulge in iconic Rideau Canal teardrop-shaped donuts – a must-have treat while skating in Ottawa, Canada."
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.25 cup cinnamon sugar, or to taste
Instructions:
  • In the bread machine, layer the ingredients in this order: milk, egg, salt, sugar, butter, flour, and yeast. Press the Dough cycle to begin.
  • After the dough cycle is finished, transfer the dough from the bread machine to a lightly floured surface. Cover it with a large mixing bowl and allow it to rest for 10 to 15 minutes. Separate the dough into 10 balls, then flatten and gently stretch each into 8x6-inch ovals resembling beaver tails.
  • Preheat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the dough in hot oil until golden brown on each side, about 2 minutes. Place on paper towel-lined plate and dust with cinnamon sugar before serving.
