Indulge in the comforting aroma of a classic apple pie baking, perfect for cozy fall days. This easy recipe uses Betty's pie crust mix for a quick and delicious dessert. Enjoy warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box (11 oz) Betty Crocker™ Pie Crust Mix
  • 1/3 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 5 cups thinly sliced peeled apples (3 large)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • Milk
  • Additional sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Follow the instructions on the pie crust mix for a 9-inch two-crust pie, using 1/3 cup of cold water. Remember to trim the overhanging edge of the bottom pastry to 1 inch from the rim of the plate.
  • In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add apples and toss to coat. Transfer the mixture into a pastry-lined pie plate, then dot with butter.
  • Roll out the remaining pastry and cut it into 10 strips, each about 1/2 inch wide. Lay 5 strips across the filling in the pie plate. Weave the remaining strips by folding back every other strip in the first set of strips. Continue weaving and folding back alternate strips before adding each cross strip until the lattice is finished. Trim any excess pastry. Fold the bottom crust over the edges of the strips to create a raised edge. Press the edges to seal and create a decorative flute pattern. Lightly brush the pastry with milk and sprinkle with a little extra sugar to finish.
  • Bake until the crust turns a beautiful golden brown and the juice is bubbling, approximately 30 to 35 minutes.
