Satisfy your cravings with this hearty pie.
Ingredients:
  • 125.00 ml plain flour
  • 1kg beef chuck steak, trimmed, cut into 2.5cm pieces
  • 27.30 gm olive oil
  • 1 large brown onion, chopped
  • 10.00 gm mild paprika
  • 400g can diced tomatoes
  • 123.75 gm dry red wine
  • 255.00 gm beef stock
  • 1 dried bay leaf
  • 126.25 gm pure cream
  • 3 medium desiree potatoes, peeled
  • 40g butter, melted
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, combine flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. Add steak and coat evenly by tossing.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of oil to a hot frying pan. Sear steak in small batches for 2 to 3 minutes until nicely browned, adding more oil if needed. Transfer to a bowl.
  • Add the onion and remaining oil to a pan over medium heat. Sauté for 3 minutes until softened. Stir in the paprika and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Mix in the tomato, tomato paste, wine, stock, bay leaf, and steak. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer partially covered for 1 1/2 hours. Remove and discard the bay leaf before serving.
  • Pour in the cream and gently stir until mixed. Take the mixture off the heat and season it with salt and pepper to your taste. Transfer the seasoned mixture to an 8-cup ovenproof dish. Preheat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced.
  • Grate potato into a bowl and squeeze out excess moisture by hand. Mix in butter and season with salt and pepper. Toss until coated, sprinkle over beef mixture, and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden. Serve hot.
