Grammy Faith's Mustard Sauce

Family-favorite creamy mustard sauce, ideal for pork dishes, especially ham at Christmas.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons mustard powder
  • 0.33333298563957 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cream
  • 0.33333298563957 cup vinegar
  • 1 egg yolk
Instructions:
  • Combine mustard powder, white sugar, and flour in the top of a double boiler or a medium metal bowl. Mix until well blended. Slowly add cream, stirring continuously to avoid any lumps. Set the mixture over a pot of simmering water. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens, approximately 15 minutes.
  • Pour vinegar into a cup and add the egg yolk. Whisk with a fork, then stir into the mustard mixture until combined. Allow the sauce to sit over simmering water until serving time. You can reheat any leftover sauce over simmering water if needed.
