Grandma's famous banana cookies with sweet frosting - a family favorite for any occasion!
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mashed ripe banana
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup milk, or more as needed
  • 2.5 cups powdered sugar, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease the cookie sheet.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another large bowl, blend baking soda into sour cream, then mix in mashed banana and vanilla extract.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the margarine and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs. Mix in the banana-sour cream combo until fully incorporated. Gradually add and combine the dry ingredients. Fold in the nuts.
  • Spoon small dollops of batter onto the cookie sheet; cookies will maintain their shape when baked.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until bottoms are light golden brown and cookies are set but still slightly soft, for 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer cookies to a rack to cool.
  • While the cookies cool, make the frosting by melting butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add brown sugar, reduce heat to low, and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  • Add 1/4 cup of milk and bring to a second boil. Take off the heat and cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Add the powdered sugar slowly until the frosting reaches your preferred consistency. If the frosting becomes too stiff, mix in a small amount of milk.
  • Frost cooled cookies with frosting.
