Classic cardamom wheat rolls - a timeless family tradition for 50 years.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.75 cups boiling water
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 3 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • Chunk the butter and add it to a large mixing bowl. Pour boiling water over it, then mix in sugar, salt, and cardamom. Stir until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves. Let the mixture cool to 105°F/41°C.
  • Combine yeast, eggs, and flour to the butter-sugar mixture, creating a smooth dough. Lightly oil the dough's surface and cover with a cloth. Allow it to double in size, approximately 1 1/2 hours in a warm spot.
  • Prepare a perfectly greased baking sheet, and keep it handy.
  • Gently deflate the dough, knead for 12 minutes until soft and springy. Shape the dough into golf ball-sized rolls, spacing them 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Allow the rolls to double in size during a 1-hour rise.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), then bake the rolls until they are perfectly browned on the bottoms and lightly golden on top, for 12 to 15 minutes.
