Family recipe: Traditional boiled, baked bagels for breakfast/lunch.
Ingredients:
  • 9 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups hot water
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, hot water, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl, then knead on a work surface for 10 minutes. Let the dough rise for 15 minutes in a bowl.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and grease a baking sheet.
  • Shape dough into 24 balls and create a hole in the center of each to form a bagel shape. Arrange bagels on baking sheet and allow to rise for 20 minutes.
  • Boil bagels in batches in a large pot of water for about 45 seconds per side. Drain on a clean towel, then return to the baking sheet.
  • Cook in the preheated oven until golden brown and fully cooked, for 30 to 35 minutes.
