Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Fluffy, moist cornbread made with cornmeal, buttermilk, tender, light, buttery, golden crust.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Assemble all the ingredients.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease an 8-inch square pan.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, then quickly whisk in eggs.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together buttermilk and baking soda. Pour into the skillet. Mix in cornmeal, flour, and salt until smooth with just a few lumps.
  • Transfer the batter into the greased pan.
  • Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, 30-40 minutes in the preheated oven.
