Heirloom bread recipe passed down from grandpa with ingredients measured and captured as he baked.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 0.5 cup raisins
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons margarine, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a cast iron skillet.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, and sugar in a bowl. Coat raisins with the flour mixture. Create a well in the center, add egg, buttermilk, and melted margarine. Mix until dry ingredients are absorbed. Transfer dough onto floured surface, knead briefly to even it out, handle minimally. Shape into a flat circle and put into pan.
  • Bake the bread in a preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the edges turn golden.
