Ground Beef Bulgogi from "Learning Korean"

Satisfying salty-sweet garlic beef bulgogi inspired by Peter Serpico's "Learning Korean" cookbook.
Ingredients:
1poundground beef
1/2 medium yellow onion, sliced
2clovesgarlic, chopped
2scallions, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces (white andlight green parts)
1tablespoonsoy sauce
1tablespoonsesame oil
1tablespoonmaple syrup
1teaspoonvegetable oil
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients, excluding vegetable oil, in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Marinate the ground beef in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, ensuring it's covered.
The next day, in a large sauté pan over medium heat, heat vegetable oil and stir occasionally to thoroughly cook the ground beef, breaking up any large chunks. Serve the bulgogi hot with lettuce or cabbage wraps and steamed rice.
