Satisfying salty-sweet garlic beef bulgogi inspired by Peter Serpico's "Learning Korean" cookbook.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 scallions, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces (white andlight green parts)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • Combine all ingredients, excluding vegetable oil, in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Marinate the ground beef in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, ensuring it's covered.
  • The next day, in a large sauté pan over medium heat, heat vegetable oil and stir occasionally to thoroughly cook the ground beef, breaking up any large chunks. Serve the bulgogi hot with lettuce or cabbage wraps and steamed rice.
