Oven-toasted Egyptian pita pockets filled with savory ground beef, vegetables, and spices for a satisfying and tasty hawawshi.
Ingredients:
0.5 poundground beef
2tomatoes, diced
1 large onion, diced
1green bell pepper, diced
1pinchpaprika, or to taste
1pinchground coriander, or to taste
1pinchground cinnamon, or to taste
1pinchground nutmeg, or to taste
salt and ground black pepper to taste
5pita bread rounds, split
1tablespooncorn oil
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown and crumble ground beef in the skillet for 5 to 7 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before using.
Combine cooked beef, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, paprika, coriander, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until evenly mixed. Fill pita bread rounds with the mixture.
Coat the tops with luscious corn oil and lovingly wrap each in shiny aluminum foil before laying them on a baking sheet.
Roast in the oven until golden and veggies are tender, approximately 30 minutes.
