Oven-toasted Egyptian pita pockets filled with savory ground beef, vegetables, and spices for a satisfying and tasty hawawshi.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 pinch paprika, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground coriander, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg, or to taste
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 5 pita bread rounds, split
  • 1 tablespoon corn oil
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown and crumble ground beef in the skillet for 5 to 7 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before using.
  • Combine cooked beef, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, paprika, coriander, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until evenly mixed. Fill pita bread rounds with the mixture.
  • Coat the tops with luscious corn oil and lovingly wrap each in shiny aluminum foil before laying them on a baking sheet.
  • Roast in the oven until golden and veggies are tender, approximately 30 minutes.
