Try the Horseshoe from Illinois - a tasty open-faced sandwich with toasted bread, hamburger patties, french fries, and cheese sauce. Perfect for game day entertaining!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (9 ounce) bag frozen french fries
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 slices bread, toasted
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • hot sauce to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the french fries on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties. Cook the patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat until they are cooked through, about 4 minutes on each side.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and whisk in flour. Stir continuously for 4 minutes to eliminate raw flour taste. Gradually add half-and-half, whisking to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer, then remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce as desired.
  • On each dinner plate, layer 2 slices of crispy toast, a juicy hamburger patty, and a generous portion of hot, golden french fries. Drizzle the delicious cheese sauce over the top and serve promptly for a mouthwatering experience.
