Elevate caramel slice with a delicious hot cross bun twist for a decadent treat!
Ingredients:
  • 6 apple and cinnamon hot cross buns, split
  • 2 x 397g cans sweetened condensed milk
  • 175g golden syrup
  • 80g butter, chopped
  • 20g butter, extra
  • 100g dark chocolate, melted
  • Assorted Easter eggs, to decorate
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a 20cm square cake pan and line it with baking paper. Place the hot cross bun bases, cut-side up, in the pan, trimming to fit. Use some of the bun tops to fill any gaps in the base, trimming them to fit. Bake for 10 minutes or until crisp.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine condensed milk, golden syrup, and chopped butter. Stir constantly over medium heat for 5 minutes until the butter melts and the caramel is smooth.
  • Drizzle the caramel generously over the bun base in the pan. Bake until beautifully golden, for 20-25 minutes. Allow it to cool to perfection before serving.
  • Once the slice is cooling, melt the additional butter in a medium frying pan over medium heat. Cut the remaining bun tops into 2cm pieces and add them to the pan. Cook and stir for 5 minutes until the pieces are golden and toasted.
  • Drizzle the luscious melted chocolate over the slice, ensuring a smooth surface. Garnish with the toasted bun top pieces and festive Easter eggs. Chill in the fridge for 1 hour or until set. Cut into delectable pieces for serving.
