Festive jack-o'-lantern cookies with frosting and candy, perfect for a fun Halloween treat!
Ingredients:
  • 2.3333332538605 cups baking mix (such as Bisquick®)
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 (5 ounce) package black shoestring licorice
  • 1 (11 ounce) package candy corn
  • 1.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk, or more as needed
  • 0.5 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 drop green food coloring, or as needed
  • 1 drop orange food coloring, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Combine baking mix, milk, sugar, and butter in a bowl until a soft dough forms. Gently shape the dough into a ball on a floured cloth over a cutting board. Knead the dough 8 to 10 times to maintain its tenderness.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Use a 2-inch circle cookie cutter to cut out circles. Shape circles into pumpkins and cut stems from leftover dough. Attach stems to the underside of the circles using a bit of milk and pressure. Transfer cookies onto a baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 8 minutes until lightly golden around the edges. Let cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely, for 15 to 30 minutes.
  • While the cookies are cooling, slice the licorice into three different sizes: 1/4-inch pieces for triangle eyes in sets of 3, tiny dots for pupils, and 1- to 2-inch curved or straight segments for mouths.
  • Combine confectioners' sugar, milk, and orange extract in a small bowl to make the frosting. Set aside 1 tablespoon of frosting in a separate bowl and mix with green food coloring. Color the remaining frosting with orange food coloring as needed.
  • Top the cooled cookies with green stems and orange pumpkin faces, and then adorn them with sliced licorice and candy corn while the frosting is still fresh.
