Delicious Dutch Christmas cookies made with butter, egg, sugar, and walnuts for a flaky and crispy treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, separated, divided
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a warm 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) and prepare two rimmed baking sheets.
  • Use an electric mixer to beat butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Blend in egg yolk until creamy. Mix in flour and cinnamon until dough is well combined.
  • Spread 2/3 of the dough evenly on one baking sheet, and the rest on half of another sheet. Gently press down on the dough with your fingers and score it with a fork for an artisanal touch.
  • Combine egg white and water in a small bowl, whisk until smooth, then gently brush over the dough. Sprinkle walnuts evenly on top.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  • After baking, slice into 24 squares or rectangles, and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheets before separating the cookies.
