Savor the bold flavors of miso paste and soy sauce in this Japanese-inspired BBQ sauce for a delicious twist on traditional grilling.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced, or more to taste
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup sake
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.375 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup white vinegar
  • 0.25 cup dark miso paste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (Japanese- or Thai-style)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté garlic in oil until fragrant, for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • In a saucepan, combine tomato paste, sake, water, sugar, vinegar, miso paste, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, ginger, red pepper flakes, and garlic. Simmer and stir occasionally until thickened, approximately 30 minutes.
