Tender, savory meatballs cooked in fresh herb-infused sauce take this authentic spaghetti to the next level.
Ingredients:
3tablespoons olive oil
0.75 cupchoppedonion
4clovesgarlic, minced
2 (16 ounce) canscrushed tomatoes
3 (6 ounce) canstomato paste
0.5 cupsugar
0.25 cup chopped fresh oregano, divided
salt and pepper to taste
0.5 cupItalian seasoned bread crumbs
0.25 cupchoppedfresh parsley
0.5 cupgratedParmesan cheese
1 (16 ounce) packageuncooked spaghetti
Instructions:
In a large saucepan over medium heat, sauté the onion in olive oil until lightly browned. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, half the oregano, and a bay leaf. Season with salt and pepper, bring to a boil, then simmer on low while making the meatballs.
Combine ground round, bread crumbs, remaining oregano, remaining garlic, parsley, eggs, and cheese in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Form into 1 inch balls and place into the sauce. Simmer for 40 minutes until meatballs reach an internal temperature of 160°F (72°C).
Boil a generous pot of lightly salted water and add the spaghetti. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes until al dente, then drain. Top the cooked spaghetti with the meatballs and sauce before serving.
