Elevate a classic dish with crispy homemade fried onions for an irresistible twist!
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1.25 cups vegetable oil for deep-frying
  • 1 small onion, sliced and separated into rings
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans French cut green beans, drained
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 pinch paprika, for garnish
Instructions:
  • Start by whisking the egg in a small bowl. In another bowl, mix the flour and pepper. Heat oil in a heavy skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Dip each onion ring in the egg, then coat with the flour mixture. Fry in batches until golden brown, approximately 3 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate, then chop into 1/2 inch pieces.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for delicious results.
  • Combine green beans, mushroom soup, milk, and half of the onions in a medium bowl. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until heated through and bubbly, approximately 25 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese and remaining onions, then bake until browned on top, around 10 minutes more. Garnish with a sprinkle of paprika and black pepper before serving.
