Indulgent Hungarian cinnamon swirl bread filled with poppy seeds, walnuts, or cocoa. Perfect toasted with butter for leftovers.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (.25 ounce) envelope active dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1 egg
  • 0.25 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.33333334326744 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Prepare a generously greased large bowl and two greased glass loaf pans for later use.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment, combine flour, white sugar, salt, and yeast. In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, egg, 1/4 cup melted butter, and vanilla until well combined, then pour into the flour mixture. Start mixing on low speed until a dough forms, then increase to medium and knead for 4 to 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Transfer the dough to the prepared bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • After deflating the dough, transfer it to a floured surface and split it into 2 equal portions. Roll each piece into a rectangle about 1/3-inch thick. Brush both rectangles with melted butter, then evenly sprinkle them with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll each rectangle into a tight log, sealing the ends and tucking underneath. Transfer to the loaf pans, cover, and allow to rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, approximately 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 350°F (175°C).
  • Drizzle melted butter over the loaves to add a golden finishing touch.
  • Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for roughly 30 minutes or until they turn golden brown and produce a hollow sound when tapped.
