Authentic, foolproof Italian sauce recipe passed down from generations. Perfect for spaghetti or lasagna. Key ingredient: sugar for a hint of sweetness. Easily adaptable for vegetarians - simply swap olive oil for beef.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (28 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 yellow onions, chopped
  • 2 green bell peppers, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions:
  • Puree the stewed and crushed tomatoes until smooth in a blender. In a large stock pot or kettle, sauté ground beef with onions, peppers, and garlic until browned. Mix in the pureed tomatoes and simmer over low heat. Stir in sugar, basil, and oregano and gently simmer for about 40 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
