Crowd-pleasing recipe, perfect for parties, especially game day. Enjoy with extra BBQ sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 dash garlic powder
  • 1 dash onion powder
  • 1 (4 pound) pork shoulder roast (butt roast)
  • 2 cups water to cover
  • 1 (18 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce
Instructions:
  • Mix brown sugar, salt, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, white sugar, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl until well combined. Massage spice mixture onto the pork, then wrap the pork in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.
  • Place the pork in a slow cooker and pour in just enough water to cover it. Cook on High for 4 hours or Low for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Place the pork in a spacious bowl and pull it apart using two forks, removing any bones, skin, or extra fat. Set aside the cooking liquid from the slow cooker. Put the shredded pork back into the slow cooker and mix in the barbeque sauce.
  • Simmer on low heat for an additional 2 hours. Add reserved cooking liquid as needed to keep the pork moist and flavorful.
