Lightened-up German beef and cabbage roll, perfect for freezing and dunking in tangy mustard.
Ingredients:
1poundlean ground beef
1onion, chopped
0.5 medium head cabbage, shredded
0.5 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
1 (8 ounce) packagemild Cheddar cheese, sliced
black pepper to taste
2 (1 pound) loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
butter flavored cooking spray
0.25 cupmargarine, melted
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C. In a large, deep skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until evenly browned. Drain any excess fat. Add the cabbage and onion soup mix, cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until lightly browned. Set aside.
Roll out the bread dough into a 16x8 inch rectangle and cut it into eight 4-inch squares. Fill the center of each square with the cabbage mixture, top with a small slice of cheese, then fold the corners up and pinch the edges closed. Place the krautburgers on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray and allow them to rise for approximately 10 minutes.
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush warm rolls with margarine. Repeat with second loaf of bread and remaining cabbage mixture and cheese.
