Lightened-up German beef and cabbage roll, perfect for freezing and dunking in tangy mustard.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 0.5 medium head cabbage, shredded
  • 0.5 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
  • 1 (8 ounce) package mild Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • black pepper to taste
  • 2 (1 pound) loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
  • butter flavored cooking spray
  • 0.25 cup margarine, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C. In a large, deep skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until evenly browned. Drain any excess fat. Add the cabbage and onion soup mix, cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until lightly browned. Set aside.
  • Roll out the bread dough into a 16x8 inch rectangle and cut it into eight 4-inch squares. Fill the center of each square with the cabbage mixture, top with a small slice of cheese, then fold the corners up and pinch the edges closed. Place the krautburgers on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray and allow them to rise for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush warm rolls with margarine. Repeat with second loaf of bread and remaining cabbage mixture and cheese.
