Delight in my grandmother's cherished recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 14 egg yolks
  • 1 pint sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups shortening
  • 0.33333298563957 cup confectioners' sugar for decoration
Instructions:
  • Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and form into a ball. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 30 minutes by hand, or 15 minutes with a mixer fitted with a dough hook.
  • Allow the dough to sit undisturbed for 10 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into 3-inch long and 1-inch wide strips. Make a 1-inch slit lengthwise in the center of each strip. Pull one end through the slit to create a bow shape.
  • In a frying pan or electric skillet, melt shortening and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Fry the cookies in hot oil until lightly browned on both sides, then transfer to a paper towel to drain.
  • Sprinkle finished cookies with confectioners sugar for an elegant touch.
