Lángos (Hungarian fried flatbread) recipe

Savory flatbreads topped with garlic, cheese, bacon, and sour cream for a comforting snack. Easy homemade dough recipe included for foolproof results!
Ingredients:
  • Sour cream, to serve
  • Grated cheddar, to serve
  • 250ml (1 cup) milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried yeast
  • 2.50 gm caster sugar
  • 350g (2 1/3 cups) plain flour
  • 2.40 gm table salt
  • Vegetable oil, to deep fry
  • Halved garlic cloves, to serve
  • Cooked chopped bacon, to serve
  • Chopped fresh parsley leaves, to serve
Instructions:
  • Heat the milk until just lukewarm in the microwave or a saucepan. Transfer to a jug if using a saucepan. Add the yeast and sugar, then mix using a skewer until combined. Let it sit for 5 minutes or until the mixture becomes frothy.
  • Combine flour and salt in a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment. Pour in the milk mixture and beat until just combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and continue beating for 3 minutes, or until a soft, sticky dough forms. Grease a bowl with oil, then transfer the dough onto a lightly oiled surface. Shape it into a ball and place it in the prepared bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  • Fill a large wide saucepan halfway with oil and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 180C on a cook's thermometer.
  • Divide the dough into 6 portions using oiled hands. Shape each portion into a 16cm-diameter disc on a lightly oiled surface, ensuring it's thicker around the edges. Carefully place the dough into the hot oil and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until puffed and golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate using tongs. Repeat with the remaining dough portions.
  • Infuse warm flatbread with the aromatic essence of fresh garlic. Layer with luxurious sour cream, decadent cheese, crispy bacon, and vibrant parsley.
