Irresistible Liège waffles with caramelized pearl sugar for the perfect blend of crispy and sweet flavors.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1.5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 0.75 cup lukewarm milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1.5 cups pearl sugar (such as Lars' Own®)
Instructions:
  • Combine yeast, white sugar, and warm milk in a small bowl, making sure the milk is no hotter than 100 degrees F (40 degrees C). Allow the mixture to sit for 15 minutes until the yeast softens and a creamy foam forms.
  • Combine eggs, melted butter, and vanilla with the yeast mixture, whisking until well incorporated; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the egg mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise in a warm place (80 to 95 degrees F / 27 to 35 degrees C) for about 30 minutes until doubled in size. Gently fold in the pearl sugar.
  • Follow the manufacturer's guidelines to preheat the waffle iron.
  • Take a baseball-sized portion of dough and place it on the preheated waffle iron. Cook until golden and crisp, approximately 2 minutes. Repeat with the rest of the dough. Let the waffles cool for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.
