2 large black gumdrops
1pink licorice candy
1 large red gumdrop
2piecescandy-coated gum
2sticksstriped fruit-flavored gum
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Follow box instructions to make and cool two 8- or 9-inch round cakes. For easier handling, chill cake in the fridge or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes. Cut one round as demonstrated in the diagram provided. Click on the link below to view the diagram.
Place the pieces on a tray as indicated, securing them together with a small amount of frosting. Apply a thin layer of frosting to seal in crumbs. Chill in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes to set the frosting. Frost the entire cake, sprinkle with colored sugars, and decorate the edges with shoestring licorice.
Place cake balls on top of the frosting to create cheeks. Insert short strips of shoestring licorice into the cheeks to make whiskers. Use shoestring licorice to outline the eyes and add short strips for eyelashes. Place black gumdrops in the eyes for pupils, pink licorice candy for the nose, a red gumdrop for the mouth, and gum for the teeth. Cut striped gum into narrow pieces and put them in the centers of the ears. Add a magician's hat and magic wand for decoration, if preferred. Store the finished creation loosely covered.
